The SAFE Foundation was founded in 2007 to assist in the provision of grants of money and materials that could contribute to poverty relief in developing countries. As founder, Lucy Dickenson felt it was important to establish a new organisation, rather than assisting others, as her own experiences living and working in Uganda, Rwanda, Mongolia and elsewhere showed that remote or small projects were often unable to access mainstream aid or that the aid they were often offered was conditional. The SAFE Foundation was established in response to the needs of these particular projects and have since expanded to accept proposals from other developing projects experiencing the same problems
